On Thankfulness

I think that thankfulness is something we’re all inherently not that great at. Yep, you heard that right. Odds are that if you’re reading this, you could probably be more grateful for everything in your life, even the bad things.

If there’s one thing we’ve all learned in the past 20 or so months, it’s that we all have so, so much to be thankful for. I don’t think there is a single one of us who wasn’t affected adversely by the pandemic, and while this year is notably different than last year, the effects still linger. I don’t think that will ever change because so many people lost someone due to COVID-19 or otherwise had their lives changed. Indeed, many of us, including myself, contracted the disease and survived pretty much unscathed, (aside from the whole taste/smell thing, but that’s better now).

So, while we’ve lost people and things, we have to be thankful for what we do have.

You might be saying, “What do I have to be thankful for?” Well, are you breathing right now? I’m willing to bet that if you’re reading this, you are, in fact, breathing. God didn’t have to give you that ability today, but He did. While many people may not have a place to live, statistically, if you’re reading this you probably do have a place to live. Whether you have a large house, an apartment, or whatever, you most likely have a roof over your head and that’s what truly matters. I could go on and on and on, but I won’t.

I want to tell you what I’m thankful for. I’m thankful that I have a loving family, a home to live in, a job to go to, food to eat, etc. I’m so very thankful that I live in the best country on Earth. I’m incredibly grateful that God brought an awesome, faithful woman into my life in the past year. But, most importantly, I’m thankful that God sent His Son, Jesus to die for me. He saw fit that a wretched sinner like me could get eternal life simply by deciding to welcome Jesus into his heart.

That’s my encouragement for you this year. I encourage each and every one of you to invite Him into your heart and life if you haven’t already. There is nothing more important for you to do in life than that.

Be thankful this year that you have all you have and that there is a Savior that loves us so, so much!
